Over the past week, Hurricane Lee has been making its way up the coast, gradually increasing in intensity and size. On Thursday alone, the hurricane intensified from 80 mph to 165 mph in just 24 hours, spelling possible trouble for New England.
Over the weekend, Hurricane Lee faced wind shear and drier air, weakening it considerably. But, Lee continues to hold onto its Category 3 hurricane status. And as of this morning, it was located about 555 miles south of Bermuda, with hurricane-force winds sustained at 115 mph and extending 90 miles from the hurricane’s center, three times further than what they reached on the weekend. Tropical storm-force winds extend 205 miles from Lee’s core, all according to CNN.
Hurricane Lee won’t likely threaten New England landmass over the next few days, with its center moving to the north of the Caribbean Islands and continuing its path east over the next week. And it’s expected to lessen in intensity throughout Wednesday and Thursday, but will likely continue to grow in size and speed.
This means that New England should not see Lee making a touchdown on its land anytime soon, but it may see the impact of Lee’s winds.
