Spring is well underway, and for those in Boston for business, pleasure or because you actually live there, there are plenty of places just a drive away where you can take a break from the big city. There’s no better time to explore New England.

Here’s our list of the best weekend escapes.

First is Kennebunkport, Maine. Just an hour and a half drive from Boston, this quaint seaside town is the quintessential New England getaway. It’s got great food, including fresh seafood galore, and the famous Nubble Light lighthouse.

Next is Newport, Rhode Island. This jewel on the coast is where you go for a glimpse of old money New England. It has award-winning restaurants, serene beaches and the famous mansions, such as The Breakers, which are long-standing symbols of legacy American wealth, and open to the public to visit.

Finally, a spot more off the beaten track. Woodstock — but no, not the Woodstock you’re thinking of. Woodstock, Vermont may not have a legendary music festival tied to its legacy but it’s no less special of a place. Just a 2.5 hour drive from Boston, this adorable town has farms and hiking trails galore, as well as incredibly romantic inns and restaurants.
