Have you ever wanted to see Maine’s Acadia National Park by day and Nova Scotia by night? Now you can, all while sitting down.

New England residents will be pleased to know that The Cat — a ferry that transports people between Maine and Canada — has resumed after being dormant for 13 years.

But it’s not exactly as it was before; the ferry itself is an updated, sleek vessel with a new docking location. The route is also now even faster, and takes about 3.5 hours, less than half the driving time. Passengers can enjoy snacks, meals, speciality coffees or local wine and beer. An onboard gift shop also sells locally-made souvenirs.

The new ferry is also optimized for comfort and viewing; the front has floor-to-ceiling windows for interior viewing. If you want a spot at the front, definitely arrive early. The open observation deck is also perfect for when the weather is good, and great for bringing pets, which are also allowed onboard.

The Cat departs Bar Harbor, ME every day at 3pm EST and Yarmouth at 9am AST. The Cat’s first season runs from May through October, and has a special three-for-two offer — up to three adult passengers ride free with the purchase of two tickets and a vehicle.

Fully-vaccinated passengers will not need a negative Covid-19 test result, but they must fill out mandatory forms ahead of time at ArriveCan.
