Memorial Day weekend is not only a holiday with a beautiful message behind it — celebrating the soldiers who have served. But it’s also the unofficial beginning of summer, which is something else to celebrate.

Have you made your plans yet for May 29? We’ve got an itinerary for you here.

Memorial Day weekend typically brings with it warm weather. And since we all have Monday off work, why not find a patio somewhere for brunch with friends, early dinner or a few drinks in the sun? Don’t leave it until the last minute, because others will have the same idea — call your favorite restaurant with outdoor space now to make a reservation.

For something a little more raucous, check out the three-day Boston Calling music festival, which attracts over 40,000 people. The lineup this year includes Alanis Morisette, Foo Fighters, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more.

For something more relaxed, many Bostonians head to the beach on Memorial Day, particularly Cape Cod, the Vineyard or the New Hampshire mountains. You can join them — or take advantage of the fact that all the city-dwellers are gone, and get tickets to the Red Sox, a show, a whale-watching cruise, museums and more.
