We’re all probably feeling a little more than stir crazy at this point, and as the temperature drops, it may seem as though outdoor activities are pretty much off the cards. But New England isn’t known for its iconic four seasons for nothing — there are plenty of beautiful outdoor destinations that are fun, family-friendly, and COVID-19 safe to get you and your loved ones out of the house. We’ve pulled together a few of our very favorites.

New England has some of the most beautiful mountains in the country, so going on a hike is a beautiful and fun way to spend the day. Apps like AllTrails make it easy for you to find a gorgeous scenic view right around the corner. If you’re hiking with young kids, be sure to research the experience level beforehand, bring snacks, and lots of warm clothes. You can even make it into a game — learn about the local flora and fauna ahead of time, and have a competition to see who can spot the most.

If you want to try something a bit more unique and advanced, try out snowshoeing. The Mass Audobon Society has resources on where to find rentals and lessons locally.

If you don’t feel like venturing far from your backyard, why not create your own ice rink? There are plenty of how-to videos and guides online, and DIY rinks are a lot safer and easier to manage for beginners than frozen lakes.

When the weather is too frosty for outdoor sports, that doesn’t mean you need to stay indoors. Winter is one of the most majestic seasons in New England, and it’s a great time to go for a drive. Plan your route, pack the car with snacks, make a playlist, and hit the road. You’ll be amazing at the new places you’ll discover.

As COVID-19 rates remain at a high around the country, it’s important to stay safe while taking care of your mental health. Find ways to get out the house while maintaining a safe social distance. Flightline is here to help, with a fleet of vehicles well-equipped for keeping passengers safe.
